Hi my name is Georgia, and I am a 23 year old Freelance Broadcaster and singer/song writer originally from South East London.
I always loved singing and music, but I didn’t really take myself seriously until I lost my sight at age 13 and found myself growing up very quickly. It’s amazing how something like losing your sight forces you to grow up, and at that age, I found myself turning to music as a way of coping with the sudden changes I faced.
Some might have turned to drugs or worse, might have turned their anger and frustration inwards against themselves, but I was determined to get on with it, and so I turned to music, and I’ve been hooked ever since.
When I turned 16, I decided to audition for the Brit School in London and was thrilled when I gained a place on the BTEC Music course, as so many major artists had studied there before me, Kate Nash, Leona Louis, Katie Melua, Amy Winehouse and Adele to name but a few.
In 2010 I graduated with a triple distinction (basically 3 A grade A-levels), and went on to complete Brit’s Arts Management programme, a course which covers stuff like artist marketing, event management etc; I gained a distinction for Arts Management in 2011.
While I was a student, I got involved in college radio and had a regular show on Brit FM for a while. I was fascinated by the challenges of radio presenting, editing interviews and putting together interesting features, and so in February 2011 I approached Insight Radio, a station run by the RNIB where I received formal training.
In May I was asked to stand-in for the station’s regular lunchtime presenter Jill Daily, and I was thrilled to say the least! But I was even more thrilled when I was asked to stand-in for her again in September 2011. I’ve also produced several features for Insight Radio, and am currently working on a few more interesting bits and pieces which will be broadcast soon.
When I’m not bouncing around on a satellite or transmitter somewhere, you’re likely to find me gigging around my local area, working on features, shopping, reading or recording in the studio Thank you for taking a look round my site, and be sure to check out my blog regularly for updates and news.
